Thanks for a fun afternoon, Drexel

on February 28th, 2010 by JL

It’s great to have some competition in a casual atmosphere with a neighboring school who is both your rival and your friend. I think we were all able to witness some high quality badminton, and hopefully found ourselves in a close match as well. I hope everyone on both teams had an enjoyable afternoon this past Saturday, and we look forward to playing each other again in the future.

Main Line Doubles Results!

on February 1st, 2010 by JL

The 2010 Main Line Doubles tournament, held annually at Bryn Mawr College, brings an assortment of collegiate and club players from Philadelphia and the surrounding area (with some coming from Virginia and New York). This year, Penn’s badminton club proved its dominance in the mixed doubles division with a win, and its players showed flexibility by achieving results with various new partners. We will train with renewed effort and will hopefully continue our success at the next tournament.

Results:

Jimmy Lin & Sandra Jacob – Winners, A Mixed Doubles
Sandra Jacob & Chenjuan Ma – 3rd place, A Women’s Doubles
Jimmy Lin & Eric Miller (Bryn Mawr) – 4th place, A Men’s Doubles
Swee Lim & Jason Xu (NYC) – 2nd place, C Men’s Doubles
Daphne Ng & Peter Thai (Drexel) – 4th place, B Mixed Doubles

Success at the 2010 National Capital Open

on January 20th, 2010 by JL

At this year’s annual National Capital Open at the University of Maryland, the Penn Badminton Club sent eight of its members to compete in the grueling three-day badminton tournament. By the end of the tournament, Penn’s shuttlers had accumulated six individual trophies – the most of any college club present at the tournament. Many of them played in a higher division than they were accustomed to playing in and successfully rose to the challenge.

Here are the highlights of the tournament:

Jason Tabalujan & Sandra Jacob – Mixed Doubles D Winners
Swee (Felix) Lim – Men’s Singles D Winner
Sandra Jacob & Devi Kasih – Women’s Doubles C Finalists
Daphne Ng (Penn) & Devin Dobrowolski (Drexel) – Mixed Doubles D Finalists

Penn vs. Temple

on November 21st, 2009 by JL

On Friday, November 20, 2009, Penn hosted a home match against Temple University. The primary purpose of the match was for both teams to gain more experience, and I believe both teams were able to benefit from the match. Penn was able to give its second and third string players a chance to compete, and they performed wonderfully. Ultimately, our Men’s Team won 8-1 and our Women’s Team won 6-0. Check out the pictures here.

Thanks for coming out Temple, and best of luck in the future!
