The Penn Badminton Club is a student-run sport club at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. We have practice three times per week in Hutchinson Gym and are actively involved in local and national tournaments. In addition, we play against universities and colleges who are members of the Intercollegiate Badminton Association (IBA).
In the 2009-2010 season, we opened our doors for the first time to the recreational players on campus by forming a Recreational Team. Our Competitive Team participated in six tournaments throughout the year — Mid-Atlantic Juniors/Collegiate, National Capital Open, Main Line Doubles, National Collegiate, Mid-Atlantic Classic, and Maryland Junior Open — and brought home trophies from each tournament. As a team, we placed second at Mid-Atlantic Juniors/Collegiate, and third (Men) and fourth (Women) at Nationals.
This season, we aim to play in even more tournaments and IBA matches. We will be focusing on individual improvement so that we may succeed as a team, but ultimately we want everyone to have a memorable and enjoyable experience. We would also like to promote badminton in our university community and show others just how fast-paced and exciting the sport of badminton really is.
